Nusa Lembongan – Dream Beach : The Bay of Dazzling Beauty

Even though the beach can often be quite crowded due to its popularity and accessibility from Devil’s Tear, most tourists only take photos at the cliff without even going down to the beach, so all you needed to do is to venture beyond the rocky cliffs and get down to the bay and hidden caves near the shores.

Hidden Cave

Caves can be found under the cliffs on both the left and right side of the beach. On low tide you can walk around the rock and find deep caves and a secluded beach that you will most likely have all to yourself. We visited early in the morning and looking down from the rocky outcrop, the tide was high, and the caves were still covered, so if you are keen on exploring, you should time your visit around late afternoon when the tide ebbed.

Cliff Jumping

Like Devil’s Tear, Dream Beach isn’t a high-profile cliff jumping spot, but some travel bloggers had introduced this as one of the place for cliff jumping in Nusa Lembongan. The jumps are about 4-5m high, and there is no easy way back up onto the cliffs as you will need to scramble up the sharp rock to get out of the water. However, know your limit before you decide on jumping, as the current and tides can be very dangerous. This is the Indian Ocean we are talking about after all.

The scramble out wasn’t the safest exit ever with waves crashing into the rocks. You will need to wear shoes or reef shoes to help you climb out as the rocks are quite sharp.

Cost

Like other attractions on Nusa Lembongan, there are no entrance fee charged on Dream Beach. Besides that, parking is also free. 

How to get there

Dream Beach is about 15 minutes away from Jungut Batu beach, on the southwestern side of the island. It’s right next to Devil’s Tear, the most famous cliff on Nusa Lembongan. On your way there from Jungut Batu beach, you can drop by Panorama Point for the panoramic view of Jungut Batu beach with Mount Agung as its backdrop. 

If you’re travelling over from Bali, you’ll most likely arrive at Mushroom Beach ferry port in Nusa Lembongan. From here you can grab a scooter for around RP 70,000 per day. Otherwise, you can barter with local motor taxi (or ojek as the Balinese called it) to take you around the island. Coming in a big group? You can also hire a driver to drive you around for about RP 500,000 to RP 600,000. Staying in Bali but still want to do a day trip to Nusa Lembongan? Fret not, as there are also tour package available which includes return speedboat to Lembongan, driver and guide as well as hotel pick up and drop off. This can be easily arranged through your hotel in Bali. 

As everywhere on Nusa Lembongan is reachable within a 30-minute drive, exploring the island with a scooter would be the most recommended option.

Best Time to Visit

Dream Beach can be visited all day long but is most crowded in the late afternoon until sunset. Facing west, this popular beach if ideal for sunshine. If you can’t time your visit during the sunset hour, the second-best time is to visit early in the morning before 9am, before the crowd from Bali kicks in. That being said, there’s no need to come at dawn as it is not a good spot for sunrise, unless if you are a fan of swimming early in the morning. Not a bad idea to beat the crowd.

We visited Devil’s Tear first thing in the morning and walked over to its left where the cliff overlooking Dream Beach is. The crowd has yet to kick in and we had the place to ourselves. We tried navigating our way to Dream Beach once we were done with Devil’s Tear but we ended up sneaking into Water Blow Huts instead, which is a beautiful resort overlooking the bay. We ended up forgetting about Dream Beach and went on to explore Nusa Ceningan instead.

Epilogue

Though we didn’t manage to set our foot on the bay, it look dazzling from the cliff, and there are some cool bars and hotels nearby overlooking the beach, so you can just head to one of them for a beer or two while watching the ocean crashing onto the pristine beach. There’s also a swing on the beach for your perfect Instagram photo. I wished I’d have more time to chill and stroll along the beach. But oh well… adventure awaits, and Nusa Ceningan was calling! *wink*
