Akirynya Resort : Budget-Friendly Resort With An 'Atas' View

Bearing the reputation of “The Little Switzerland of Thailand”, Khao Kho has plenty of hotels and resorts which offers splendid view of the mountainous valley and morning sea of clouds. Although big names such as The Blue Sky Resort, The Sense Talaymok, Phu San Dao and Pino Latte were the hottest resort in town, they also booked out fast, so you’ll have to book in advance to secure a room, especially during the peak season in winter. However, with the booming tourism in Khao Kho, fret not, as there are plenty of new resorts in town, offering the same plendid view. One of such resort I found is Akirynya Resort.
Akirynya Resort

Akirynya Resort

Akirynya Resort was born from the intention to make accommodation on an area of approximately 10 rai, with a small number of rooms to provide thorough care at a budget-friendly price. Unlike other higher end resorts in Khao Kho and elsewhere in the world, the room price is the same at 2500 Baht per night regardless of the high or low season. The price does not include any breakfast.

The rooms here are basic
Capitalising on Khao Kho’s famous sea of clouds view, every room comes with a balcony that opens to the air in the morning.

Basic furniture

Every room has a balcony

View from the balcony

I had a conference call to make, but let's do it with this nice view

There's even a hammock

The view from the balcony

Sunrise view would be amazing but we could't wake up early the next day
Guests can sit at the chair and enjoy sipping some coffee and cold air. There are only 5 rooms in total, but there are also 5 tents at the camping ground at the back of the resort, facing the same view. However, I couldn’t find the pricing for the tent rental from their booking site.

The main building and entrance

The dining area with a view

Wouldn't mind sleeping in those tents
Besides the main buildings housing the rooms, the compound is also planted with sweet corns and marigold flower. There is also a dining area and restaurants for guests to dine in while enjoying the mountain. We didn’t get the chance to eat there but we read that the owner used to own a restaurant in Khao Kho and they do serve delicious food.

The car passage way is narrow here, not to mention the parking space
As the Akirynya Resort only serve limited number of guests per day (due to its limited room available), the small parking area is enough to cater to its guests.

We didn't bump into any other guests during our stay

I looked so slim in this photo (grin)
Although the main roads in Khao Kho is nicely tarred, the same cannot be said about the small road leading to Akirynya Resort. As Waze led us closer and closer to our destination, about 1km away from Akirynya, we had to drive on gravelled road. The road condition is not too awful, but it could be uncomfortable to those who had little experience driving on such road condition. Nonetheless, our rented Toyota Yarris survived the trip. My advice is to drive slowly and carefully. You wouldn’t want to scratch the bottom of the car.

Cost

Room: 2,500 Baht (RM 317 / SGD 105)
Tent: Unknown

How To Get There

Akirynya Resort is located in Khao Kho, a district in Phetchabun Province, about 6-hour drive from Bangkok or 2-hour drive from Phitsanulok. We rented a car from Bangkok and drove to Khao Kho, however you can also take a car charter, a public bus or fly to Phitsanulok and rent a car there.

It would be amazing to be there at sunset
Once you are in Khao Kho, everywhere is reachable within an hour to an hour away. Akirynya Resort is located just 25-min drive away from Khao Kho Wind Farm and 20-min drive from Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew and Pino Latte. If you are travelling from Phu Thap Boek, you will need to drive one hour and 15 min to reach here.

Epilogue

When I was looking for a place to stay in Khao Kho, I was particularly searching for a place with a balcony, just to make sure I have a mountain view. There were several resorts in Khao Kho which I had in mind, but sadly they were fully booked by the time I started hunting last minute. I stumbled across Akirynya Resort from a Thai travelogue on youtube and decided to give it a try. It is currently not listed on agoda and booking.com but you can book via roomscope with the help of Google Translate. However, payment must be made online during reservation and they only accept bank transfer and not credit card (as of November 2018).

Panoramic view from our room
Akirynya didn’t disappoint, as the room is clean, the view is nothing but great, and the owner was very friendly and hospitable.

Love the view here
