Gunung Panti Day Hike : From Panti Barat to Panti Tengah (Forest Trail >>> Lukut Trail)

Gunung Panti is no stranger to most regular hikers, especially Johorians and Singaporeans. It’s the second most popular day hike destination, apart from Gunung Pulai due to its proximity to JB and Singapore and its easy to access trail head. However, most people only trek via the forest trail, the same one I hiked a couple of months ago. Wide, clearly marked and full of people, this trail is likened to that of “a highway in the mountain”, and not many hikers are actually aware of another less trekked trail – the Lukut trail. In fact, this may just be the official trail as there is a big arch gate at the trail head with the wordings: “Tapak Rekreasi Gunung Panti” (“Mount Panti Recreational Site”).

Gunung Berembun Jelebu Day Hike - Revisiting The WWII Crash Site

About a year ago, I first step foot in the dense rainforest of Gunung Berembun Jelebu, the burial site of the crashed WWII aircraft. Having taken the reverse route from Telapak Buruk, my friends and I had done a very leisure Trans from Telapak Buruk to Gunung Berembun and out from Kampung Pantai trail head. Little did I know that I would be doing the classic route so soon (Kampung Pantai trail head > Gunung Berembun Jelebu > Crash Site > Gunung Berembun Jelebu > Kampung Pantai trail head)

Gunung Panti Barat Day Hike via Forest Trail

When asked what are the mountains or hills you can hike in JB, the first one which come to your mind is probably Gunung Pulai. However, JB is more than just Gunung Pulai, and with just an hour drive to Kota Tinggi, you can find many beautiful treks suitable for a day trip. One of such is Gunung Panti. A one way trek takes only around 2 to 2.5 hours, making it a 4-5 hours round trip, hence Gunung Panti is many hikers’ favourite leisure day hike on a Sunday morning. It’s famous among local hikers as the entrance is free and it’s short yet steep enough to pose some level of challenge, making it a good training ground for those looking to summit higher, more difficult mountains.

The Blue Sky Resort - A Step Into An European Fairytale Resort In The Heart of Khao Kho

The Blue Sky Resort is no stranger to anyone who have read or seen news about Khao Kho. The thought of staying in this magical place crossed my mind, but it was over my budget. Although I normally travel on a budget, I do occasionally splurge a little to enjoy a comfortable stay in a decent hotel. However, a night stay over RM500 per night in Thailand still sound pretty expensive to me, so I ended up staying at Akirynya Resort instead.

Akirynya Resort : Budget-Friendly Resort With An 'Atas' View

Bearing the reputation of “The Little Switzerland of Thailand”, Khao Kho has plenty of hotels and resorts which offers splendid view of the mountainous valley and morning sea of clouds. Although big names such as The Blue Sky Resort, The Sense Talaymok, Phu San Dao and Pino Latte were the hottest resort in town, they also booked out fast, so you’ll have to book in advance to secure a room, especially during the peak season in winter. However, with the booming tourism in Khao Kho, fret not, as there are plenty of new resorts in town, offering the same plendid view. One of such resort I found is Akirynya Resort.

Khao Kho Wind Farm - Romantic Wind Turbine Farm Atop The Hill

The first time I ever heard or seen a Windmills Farm was through a Hong Kong drama called “Ups and Downs in The Sea of Love”. A scene in the drama took place in Palm Springs Windmill Farms in the city of Los Angeles, where thousands of wind turbines line the valley. It was an eye-opening scene for a school girl who has never been out of Malaysia, and needless to say, I was awed. Knowing how far and expensive a trip to the US would be, I never thought I would be able to see a Windmill Farm any time soon. That is… until I get to know about Khao Kho Wind Farm.

B.N. Farm and The Front – Strolling Across the Cosmos Field For a Romantic Afternoon Date

After visiting both Pino Latte and Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew, we still had time before checking in to our hotel, so we dropped by two places along the way – B.N. Farm and The Front. B.N. Farm for fruits and ice cream and The Front for its flower fields. The two locations are by the same owner but located opposite each other along the road.

Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew : Colourful Mosaic Temple On The Glass Cliff

Thailand is never short of impressive temples. Wherever you go, you are bound to see beautiful Thai Buddhist Temple and Khao Kho is no exception. Nestled deep in the mountains of Phetchabun resides Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew, a magical temple straight out of a fairy tale.
